Resolution Technology Analytics, LLC (RTA) was founded in 2017. Although the company is young, its beginnings go back almost 30 years. The founder of the company, serving in the United States military in the 1990s, noted that there were no good sources for open source technical information and that government collections of unclassified technical material were incomplete and not kept up to date.
In 2000, the founder departed active service to pursue engineering work. While performing electronic warfare engineering, he had the same problem, required technical information was frequently not available or only partially available. He also often observed usable information published by media sources that was not available by other means. In 2009, the projects he was working on increased their scope and the required technical information to effectively utilize the systems was not available in some cases. Partly through tasking and partly through personal dedication he started to gather open source technical information on his own. He quickly realized that, yes, valuable open source information was available, but it was overwhelming and laborious to obtain and evaluate. To effectively make the most of open source information, proper and dedicated resources were required.
In 2012, the founder started to automate the process of gathering and evaluating open source information, focusing on certain illicit uses of technology. In 2013, a database was added and the GETS Software Suite and Database were born. Since then, the software has matured and the database greatly expanded.
Today, RTA searches and evaluates thousands of sources on a daily basis for illicit usage of technology and maintains the largest database of illicit technology usage and technology developments. RTA offers technical perspective, understanding of important characteristics, and continuity in time. RTA looks across time, place and manner to immediately recognize changes to technology usage.
